Actor Ananya Panday on Tuesday introduced her first-ever OTT series, 'Call Me Bae,' which she says draws inspiration from classic women-led comedies such as Alicia Silverstone's 'Clueless' and Sonam Kapoor's 'Aisha.'
Panday plays the titular character, Bae aka Bella Chowdhary, who embarks on a 'riches to rags' journey. At the show's trailer launch, she cited the influential character of Poo, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan in Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...' as a significant inspiration. 'It's like a mix of 'Schitt's Creek,' 'Clueless,' 'Aisha,' 'Nancy Drew'... It's the kind of show I love to watch,' Panday said, describing her role as a blend of multiple beloved characters while remaining unique. She also praised the show's team for their support during filming.
Directed by Collin D'Cunha and created by Ishita Moitra, the series sees Bae leading a privileged life in New Delhi before being disowned by her family. She moves to Mumbai, becomes a journalist, and forms unexpected friendships while overcoming numerous challenges. The show is slated for release on Prime Video on September 6, available in multiple languages.
