India Celebrates Janmashtami with Fervor: Highlights from Different States

On Monday, devotees across north and east India celebrated Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna. Major events included a rush at Patna's ISKCON temple, decorated temples in Delhi, tableaux displays of Lord Krishna, and a dance drama on world peace. Celebrations also took place in Mathura, Jaipur, Punjab, Haryana, and Ranchi.

On Monday, devotees thronged temples across north and east India to celebrate Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna. The air was filled with chants of 'Hare Krishna', with long queues forming for the morning aarti before temples opened in several locations.

In Bihar’s Patna, a huge rush at the ISKCON temple led to a near stampede, resulting in minor injuries. Meanwhile, in Delhi, temples like Laxmi Narayan (Birla Mandir) were illuminated with festive lights and decorated with flowers imported from Thailand. Parades and tableaux of Lord Krishna were displayed across various neighborhoods.

Mathura's Krishna Janmabhoomi temple witnessed hundreds of devotees for the 'Mangala Aarti.' Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the celebrations, with nearly 25 lakh pilgrims visiting various temples in Mathura, Vrindavan, Goverdhan, and Mahaban. Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Jharkhand also hosted grand celebrations, including a Krishna Mahotsav program in Ranchi.
