In a significant blow to the Malayalam film industry, various high-profile actors, including Jayasoorya and Maniyanpilla Raju, have been accused of sexual harassment. The allegations come from a female actor who detailed incidents of abuse in a Facebook post.
The Ernakulam police registered an FIR against Raju under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code, while the Cantonment police in Thiruvananthapuram filed a case against Jayasoorya under the same section. These are part of a broader investigation following revelations in the Justice K Hema Committee report.
The state government has formed a special seven-member investigation team to further probe the allegations. The case has had significant repercussions, with several accused stepping down from their industry positions.
