Oksana Masters has once again proven her prowess by clinching a gold medal at the Paralympic Games, successfully defending her title in the para cycling's H4-5 individual time trial.

The American multi-sport specialist completed the race in 23 minutes, 45.20 seconds, finishing 6.24 seconds ahead of Chantal Haenen of the Netherlands and a significant 1 minute, 27.87 seconds ahead of China's Sun Bianbian.

This victory brings Masters' career total to an astounding eight gold medals and 18 medals overall across both summer and winter Paralympic Games.

Masters is also scheduled to compete in the H5 road race as the defending champion on Thursday, and will wrap up her Paris Games in the mixed H1-5 team relay on Saturday.

Born in 1989 near Chernobyl, Ukraine, Masters faced birth defects resulting from the aftermath of the nuclear disaster. Adopted by an American mother, she had her left leg amputated near the knee at age 9 and the right leg at the same spot five years later, yet persevered to achieve athletic excellence.
