In a historic moment for India, Kapil Parmar secured the nation’s first-ever Paralympic medal in judo by winning a bronze in the men’s 60kg (J1) category. Parmar delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira 10-0 in the bronze medal play-off.

The victory is a remarkable feat for Parmar, who had previously lost to Iran’s S Banitaba Khorram Abadi 0-10 in the semifinals. Notably, athletes in the J1 category face visual impairments and wear red circles during contests for guided support.

Hailing from Shivor, MP, Parmar’s journey is one of resilience. A childhood accident left him in a coma for six months. Despite financial struggles, he pursued judo with unwavering determination, supported by his mentor and brother Lalit.
