Kerala's Unprecedented Intervention in Film Industry: CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s Landmark Move

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan highlighted the state's unique intervention in the film industry through the Justice Hema Committee. He emphasized Kerala's proactive stance on women's security, contrasting it with other states. The committee, set up after the 2017 actress assault case, revealed significant exploitation of women in Malayalam cinema, leading to further investigations and demands for similar panels across India.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday emphasized that no state government has intervened in the film industry like Kerala, thanks to the Justice Hema Committee. This intervention, he noted, was made possible because of the Left government in power.

Vijayan encouraged anyone who had given statements to the Hema Committee, as well as those who hadn't, to lodge complaints with the police, promising thorough examination of all plaints. He referenced the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor in West Bengal to underscore the ongoing national debate on women's security.

Vijayan particularly criticized the release of the accused in the Bilkis Bano case by a right-wing outfit as sending a wrong message to society. While other states lagged behind, Kerala was moving forward with precise policies to ensure women's safety. The Justice Hema Committee, established after the 2017 actress assault case, had exposed significant exploitation and harassment of women in the Malayalam film industry, prompting state-level investigations and calls for similar panels nationwide.
