A senior American diplomat is set to travel to India and Bangladesh this week to reaffirm the United States' commitment to enhancing economic growth and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, the US State Department announced on Tuesday.

Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu, will first visit New Delhi, participating in the India Ideas Summit hosted by the US-India Business Council. The summit will focus on development, security, and women's economic empowerment. Lu's visit, spanning September 10-16, will also include co-chairing the eighth US-India 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue with US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, Jedidiah P Royal, and their Indian counterparts.

The dialogue aims to explore avenues for enhancing the US-India bilateral partnership, particularly in defense cooperation, and strengthening collaboration within and beyond the Indo-Pacific, according to a State Department press release.

In Dhaka, Lu will participate in interagency meetings with the Bangladeshi interim government. The delegation, featuring representatives from the US Department of Treasury, USAID, and the Office of the US Trade Representative, will discuss US support for Bangladesh's economic growth, financial stability, and development needs.
