Mumbai Bids Farewell to Ganesh with Grand Immersions

Over 37,000 idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Gauri were immersed in various water bodies across Mumbai by Wednesday morning, marking the end of the festival, according to officials.
The immersion processions began on Tuesday morning, continuing through the night as devotees gathered at the city’s beaches, lakes, and artificial ponds. The idol of Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh, which attracted millions of devotees this year, was immersed in the Arabian Sea at Girgaon beach around 10:30 AM, with thousands of people coming for the final glimpse.
Other popular idols, including Chinchpoklicha Chintamani, were also brought to the beaches for immersion. A total of 37,064 idols were immersed by 6 AM on Wednesday, including 5,762 community idols. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) coordinated the event by deploying lifeguards, emergency services, and over 24,000 police personnel to ensure safety and smooth progress. The festival ran from September 7 to September 17.
