A 24-year-old man's sacred thread was forcibly cut and thrown away by three motorcyclists in Palayamkottai, an act of mockery that prompted a police case, officials stated on Monday.

The incident occurred on September 21 when Akilesh was headed to the local Astika Samaj for a bhajan. He was approached by the trio while wearing a dhothi and walking shirtless. The men cut his sacred thread, mocked him, and instructed him not to wear it again.

Astika Samaj and Hindu Munnani functionaries reported the incident to Perumalpuram police, who are now investigating and scrutinizing nearby CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators. In a social media post, BJP leader and Union Minister L Murugan condemned the incident and questioned the state's Dravidian governance model, urging immediate action from the DMK government. Hindu Munnani leaders also visited Akilesh to show their support.
