A tragic accident unfolded in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Monday evening when a speeding tempo struck two tribal students from a local ashram school, killing one and critically injuring the other, police confirmed.

The students, studying in Class 12 at the residential institute managed by the Dahanu Tribal Development Project, were walking along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway when the unfortunate incident occurred. The accident took place in the Tawa area of the district.

One of the victims, Sudhir Punjara, succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while the other student, Sunny Tambda, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Kasa town. The police have registered an FIR against the unidentified driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
