Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and several Ladakhi residents launched an indefinite fast Tuesday after being detained during a march to the national capital. Opposition leaders have slammed the Delhi Police's actions as 'unacceptable' and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hear the people's demands.

A senior police officer said 150 people from Ladakh, including Wangchuk, were held at four police stations on Delhi's outskirts: Bawana, Narela Industrial Area, Alipur, and Kanjhawala.

Those detained began an indefinite fast at the police stations, according to a group representative. Wangchuk and his supporters were detained Monday night at the Singhu border for violating prohibitory orders while attempting to enter the capital city. They had been marching for a month under the 'Delhi Chalo Padyatra' organized by the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance.
