Mahant Satyendra Das, the revered chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 85. The spiritual leader was admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences earlier this month following a brain stroke.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep condolences, noting the enormous loss to the spiritual community. Das was known for his significant role during the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992, when he assumed the position of chief priest at the makeshift temple and continued to serve with dedication.
Das, who hailed from the Nirvani Akhara, was a highly respected figure within religious circles and media outlets. His modest lifestyle, marked by accepting minimal remuneration, earned him a place of respect among peers. The Vishva Hindu Parishad and other religious leaders mourn his passing and recognize his contributions to the Ayodhya movement.
