Antara Cruises, a prominent river cruise operator in India, is set to expand its horizons with new routes in Kerala, Kashmir, and Goa, to be launched within the next five years. According to Raj Singh, Founder and Chairman, the planned expansions aim to bring unique cruise experiences to more parts of India.
However, the company faces significant challenges in understanding river conditions and convincing local communities of the socio-economic benefits such tourism brings. Singh explained that the feasibility of these cruises largely depends on the river water levels and other geographical constraints.
Despite these hurdles, Antara Cruises remains optimistic. The company currently operates significant routes, connecting travelers to historic cities like Varanasi and Kolkata. Each ship employs hundreds directly, with an estimated 20,000 indirect jobs created through local services such as transportation and guiding.
