Disruption in Bollywood: A Writer's Perspective on Original Content

Niren Bhatt, writer of the hit film 'Stree 2', says the Hindi film industry faces a lack of original stories, yet sees it as a ripe time for disruptors. Despite challenges, original content is crucial for success as evidenced by the failure of most remakes post-pandemic.

In a candid discussion at the 7th edition of the Indian Screenwriters Conference, Niren Bhatt, the creative mind behind 'Stree 2', highlighted the prevailing struggles writers face within the Hindi film industry.

Despite a drought of original stories, Bhatt believes this period marks an ideal opportunity for disruptors to revolutionize the industry. He pointed out the dismal performance of 23 out of 25 post-pandemic remakes and emphasized the necessity for fresh, original content.

Supported by fellow writers Abbas Tyrewala, Aakash Kaushik, and Kanika Dhillon, the session underscored the shift from a star-driven system to one grounded in creativity and audience-driven content demands.
