Thane witnessed a series of events to mark 'Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din' on Thursday, celebrating the birth anniversary of renowned poet and playwright VV Shirwadkar, also known as Kusumagraj.

Despite the festivities, leaders from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena expressed dissatisfaction with the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) for allegedly downplaying the celebration and criticized its decision to retract additional financial incentives for employees who advance their education in Marathi studies.

While the TMC clarified through a press release that an event was conducted with civic chief Saurabh Rao at the helm, Thane Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske urged further action to restore the incentives, emphasizing the state's recognition of Marathi as a classical language and the government's dedication to its promotion.
