Valerie, the adventurous miniature dachshund, has finally been reunited with her relieved owners after an extended period of separation. She spent 18 months living in the wild on Kangaroo Island, having escaped during her owners' holiday.
Owner Georgia Gardner recounted the emotional reunion with Valerie, who showed no hesitation in recognizing her family. The dog was trapped in conditions that showed she had remarkably thrived in the wilderness, gaining weight since her disappearance.
The successful capture by volunteers from Kangala Wildlife Rescue came after a dedicated search effort. Valerie's adventure in the wild has ended, but her transition back to domestic life is set to be supported by a dog behaviourist. Her life back at home in Albury will include meeting new animal friends.
