A tragic incident occurred on the set of the upcoming Kannada film, 'Kantara: Chapter 1,' when a junior artist, M F Kapil, drowned in the Souparnika River, Udupi district. The accident has led to a temporary suspension of filming activities, confirmed police on Thursday.
M F Kapil became the victim of strong river currents during a swim on Wednesday, as confirmed by local authorities. Despite prompt rescue efforts by the fire and local departments, which successfully retrieved his body later that evening, the artist could not be saved. The police have announced that investigations under a case of unnatural death have commenced.
The tragic accident prompted the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) to call for a comprehensive investigation and a demand for Rs. 1 crore compensation for Kapil's family. Meanwhile, the filmmakers, despite facing recent setbacks from an overturned bus and severe weather damage to a set, assure that the film's release remains scheduled for October 2, 2025.
