The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha has called for an apology from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) regarding social media posts showing the interiors of the Puri Jagannath temple. The images, part of ASI's restoration work documentation, were promptly removed following backlash.
Speaking at a press conference, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty criticized the ASI's actions, stating they not only violated sacred customs but also raised security concerns about the 12th-century shrine. The incident has sparked outrage among devotees for breaching the temple's strict no-camera policy.
The situation prompted the BJD to demand that the ASI issue an unconditional apology and suspend the official responsible. Furthermore, they have urged the state's BJP government and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) for a thorough explanation of the oversight. Odisha's Law Minister, Prithiviraj Harichandan, confirmed awareness of the matter, stating the SJTA has the authority to take necessary actions.
