Veteran socialist leader and freedom fighter Dr G G Parikh, founder of the Yusuf Meherally Centre, passed away at 101. His efforts in rural development and social causes, as well as his participation in key movements, leave a lasting legacy. Parikh's body will be donated for medical research.

Dr G G Parikh, a veteran socialist leader and freedom fighter, has died at his Mumbai residence at the age of 101. Founder of the Yusuf Meherally Centre, Parikh dedicated his life to rural development and empowering marginalized communities.

Notable for his involvement in the Indian freedom struggle, the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, and the Goa Liberation Movement, Parikh was imprisoned for ten months during the Quit India movement and later during the Emergency for his activism.

Parikh, who celebrated his centenary in December 2023, is survived by a daughter and a grandson. His body will be available for public homage before being donated to J J Hospital for medical research.
