Tragic Lake Plunge: Khandwa's Unfathomable Loss

Eleven people, including seven girls, died when a tractor-trolley carrying Durga idols overturned into a lake in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, during a festival. Rescue operations saved several lives. Condolences and financial assistance were announced by PM Modi and CM Yadav for the victims' families.

In a heart-wrenching incident in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district, eleven individuals lost their lives when a tractor-trolley carrying Durga idols for immersion tipped into a lake. The tragedy occurred during the festival of Vijayadashmi, at the culmination of the Navdurga celebrations.

The accident unfolded in the Pandhana area as the vehicle, laden with devotees, fell into the water, despite warnings about the lake's depth. A coordinated rescue operation involving police, administration, local divers, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully saved several individuals.

In light of this tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed their condolences and announced financial assistance. An ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and Rs 4 lakh from the state have been declared for the victims' families.
