In a significant development, Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg has been arrested in connection with the death of his cousin, renowned singer Zubeen Garg, in Singapore last month, according to senior police sources.
Sandipan's detention is the latest in a series of arrests, bringing the total to five. Authorities had previously apprehended festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer's manager Siddharth Sharma, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta.
The case revolves around Zubeen's tragic death on September 19, while swimming during the North East India Festival. Sandipan, who was with him at the time, has been interrogated multiple times, and police now seek to extend his custody for further investigation.
