The government of Meghalaya has embarked on a significant journey with NorthEast United FC by signing a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at propelling football development and establishing Shillong as the nation's 'Football Capital'. The details of this strategic pact were announced by officials on Tuesday.
With the MoU set to commence from 2025 through 2028, the collaboration aligns NorthEast United FC with Meghalaya's Department of Tourism and Department of Sports and Youth Affairs. Their joint mission is to foster a thriving football culture, amplify youth engagement, and bolster the state's stature as a prime tourism destination.
The agreement will spearhead initiatives like football camps, coach education, and youth-centered awareness programs, crucial for nurturing grassroots talent and increasing fan engagement. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed enthusiasm, highlighting the opportunities such a partnership would unlock for Meghalayan youth in sports and tourism.
