Drake Appeals Dismissal of Defamation Lawsuit Over Kendrick Lamar Track
Drake is challenging the dismissal of his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group concerning Kendrick Lamar's song "Not Like Us." He alleges it misleadingly accuses him of being a pedophile. The dismissal by Judge Vargas stated Lamar's lyrics were opinions, not defamatory statements.
Rapper Drake is seeking to overturn a decision that dismissed his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group regarding Kendrick Lamar's track "Not Like Us."
Drake will present his case to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas dismissed it, ruling that the lyrics were opinions and non-defamatory.
Vargas argued that within the context of a heated rap battle, the allegations didn't convey verifiable facts. The process could take months as Lamar's song recently won a Grammy and topped the charts.
