A devastating fire at a nightclub in Arpora, Goa, claimed 23 lives late Saturday night. The blaze at Birch by Romeo Lane primarily took the lives of the venue's kitchen workers, including three women, as confirmed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow about the incident, extending condolences to the bereaved families and promising swift recovery for the injured. Modi assured that the state government, led by Sawant, is providing all necessary assistance to those affected.
An ex-gratia amount of Rs two lakh will be granted to the families of each deceased from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. Injured victims will receive Rs. 50,000. The tragic incident, which resulted in deaths primarily from suffocation, has cast a shadow on the popular tourist destination.
