The Maharashtra government announced on Sunday its decision to allocate 8,015 square feet of land on Senapati Bapat Road to the Pune Journalists' Trust. This land will be used for constructing a new Press Club building, fulfilling a longstanding demand of the journalist community in Pune.
This significant decision emerged from a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, initiated by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The land, located in the Bhamburda area of Pune, will be designated for commercial use under Class-2 tenure. Costs will be assessed according to current ready reckoner rates, adhering to the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code 1966 and related legal provisions.
Minister Bawankule emphasized the Trust's role in conducting training, health camps, study tours, and welfare activities for journalists and their families. With growing membership, a larger, well-equipped space is crucial for capacity building, organizing health facilities, and hosting lectures by prominent personalities. The new premises promise to meet these expanded needs.
