The much-anticipated Saras Mela is set to open at Hapania International Fair Ground in West Tripura on December 13, with Chief Minister Manik Saha presiding over the inauguration, according to officials.

Renowned as an annual convergence of self-help groups (SHGs) from across India, the event provides a platform for these groups to display and sell their diverse products. This year, a significant turnout is expected, with thousands of SHG members, fondly called didis, participating in the fair.

Officials from the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) noted that 400 stalls have been set up, with participation from various states. The preparations are being keenly overseen by a TRLM team led by CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, emphasizing the impact of SHGs in the region where over 4.68 lakh households are linked to more than 54,263 groups.
