The Union Government greenlights the installation of a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Mumbai's iconic CSMT station, as announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state assembly on Tuesday.
This endeavor is part of the extensive redevelopment project underway at the historic railway station. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav emphasized the site's cultural significance and the need for a monument reflecting Shivaji Maharaj's legacy.
The announcement came amid the impending Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, with both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition poised to leverage Shivaji Maharaj's legacy as a key electoral issue. Previously, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant had pressed the Centre to approve the statue's installation.
