On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan hailed Vande Mataram as an immortal hymn uniting the nation with love for the motherland. On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, he urged members to stand united, emphasizing the strength found in unity and the path of sacrifice.
Radhakrishnan reminisced about the hymn's role during India's freedom movement, describing it as an anthem embraced by freedom fighters. Many of them sang it fearlessly as they faced the gallows, envisioning an independent India where dignity and pride prevailed.
Composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay during colonial rule, Vande Mataram transcended barriers, becoming a symbol of hope and courage. As the Rajya Sabha dedicated ten hours to a commemorative discussion, Radhakrishnan emphasized the song's enduring significance and called for continued unity and integrity.
