Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated Swahid Divas by paying homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement against illegal infiltrators. The chief minister paid tribute to Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr, and over 850 others who perished during the movement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media, emphasizing the historical importance of the Assam Movement and reaffirming the government's commitment to realizing the dreams of those who participated, focusing on cultural strengthening and holistic progress.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the 'Swahid Smarak,' a monumental column built to honor the martyrs of the Assam agitation. The memorial, costing Rs 170 crore, includes facilities intended to inspire future generations by reflecting the core values and history of the Assamese struggle.
