Oberoi Group to Launch Luxury Resort at Historic Makaibari Tea Estate

The Oberoi Group firm EIH Ltd has signed a management deal to establish a luxury resort at the Makaibari Tea Estate in Darjeeling, slated to open in 2030. The announcement marks a significant expansion in EIH's hospitality offerings.
The planned resort will include 25 high-end accommodations, adding to the allure of one of the planet's most historic tea estates, established in 1859. Known for its striking Himalayan views and rich biodiversity, Makaibari continues to attract global attention.
Beyond hospitality, the venture aims to create sustainable employment for locals, providing training and skills development through The Oberoi Group, says Rudra Chatterjee, Managing Director of Luxmi Tea Co. EIH Ltd is progressing with its robust development pipeline featuring 29 new hotels and luxury cruisers by 2030, both in India and abroad.
