An investigation into the death of famed singer Zubeen Garg has led to a controversy involving Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi, who stands accused of spreading unverified documents related to the case's charge sheet online. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is in charge of the probe, has officially filed a complaint with the Assam Police's Crime Branch against Gogoi.
The SIT, led by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, filed the charge sheet on December 12, which reportedly names several individuals in connection with Garg's death. Despite this, the court has yet to release verified copies of the document to those requesting it, with only the accused and their immediate families having access, raising concerns over the leakage of information.
A series of serious accusations, including murder, criminal conspiracy, extortion, and destruction of evidence, have been levied against key figures such as festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg's secretary Siddhartha Sharma, and members of his band. All accused are currently detained, awaiting further legal proceedings, while the case has already had a ripple effect, drawing public scrutiny and legal action.
