Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody in Los Angeles following an alleged assault on a rideshare driver, PEOPLE has confirmed. The altercation took place late at night near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in the Hollywood area.
The 59-year-old actor was apprehended shortly after midnight on January 12. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call reporting an alleged assault. According to LAPD officer Kevin Terzes, law enforcement was alerted to an 'assault' involving Sutherland, who was identified as the suspect upon their arrival.
Terzes divulged that the investigation revealed Sutherland entered the vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made threatening remarks towards him. Despite the driver not needing medical assistance, Sutherland was arrested for 'criminal threats' under California Penal Code section 422. He was booked and later released on a $50,000 bond, with a court date set for February 2 at Los Angeles County Superior Court.
