Millions Flock to Riverbanks for Makar Sankranti Celebration

On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, more than 72 lakh devotees gathered to take a holy dip in the Ganga and Sangam during the ongoing Magh Mela. Officials expect the number of pilgrims to surpass one crore by evening.
Authorities have advised pilgrims to complete the ritual bath efficiently and avoid the use of oil and soap to mitigate congestion at the ghats. District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma assured a smooth process throughout the day, with public announcements and police guidance maintaining order.
Enhanced facilities, such as added changing rooms for women, have been appreciated by the attendees. The festival holds deep spiritual significance, marking the Sun's northward shift, and has seen extensive organizational efforts, including the deployment of more than 10,000 police personnel and comprehensive sanitation measures.
