SINGAPORE – Shweta Verma, a Singaporean finance professional with Indian roots, has won the first prize in the Asia (excluding India) and Australia region at the esteemed Vishwa Hindi Geet Competition 2026, held in Mauritius.
The international event, organized by the World Hindi Secretariat, was part of commemorations for Vishwa Hindi Diwas, aimed at celebrating the global influence of Hindi. Participants were judged on creativity, literary value, and thematic relevance.
Verma's entry, 'Ja Re, Ud Ja Re Hindi – Tarang Panchhi,' depicted Hindi as a metaphoric bird that connects diverse cultures. The piece, praised for its originality and musical richness, was performed by Verma's daughter, Kashish Singhal, and appreciated globally.
