The Indian National Congress on Friday launched a scathing critique against the Yogi-Modi government, accusing it of systematically dismantling the rich heritage of Varanasi's Manikarnika Ghat.
President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, Ajay Rai, accused the government of atheism behind a facade of Hindutva, citing destruction carried out in the name of beautification.
Amid protests, the Congress and locals demand a halt to the project until thorough consultations with religious figures, fearing cultural loss with revamping under the guise of redevelopment.
