In a significant move, AIADMK's general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday announced a relief package of Rs 10 lakh to families of bull tamers who lose their lives in the Jallikattu arena, contingent on his party's return to power.
At the Salapalayam Jallikattu event, Palaniswami emphasized that the AIADMK would ensure insurance coverage for both tamers and bulls registered in this traditional sport, which is a cornerstone of Tamil Nadu's cultural heritage.
The announcement comes after Chief Minister M K Stalin, during the Pongal festival in January, had declared a government job for the best-performing tamer at the Alanganallur Jallikattu event in Madurai, further highlighting the state's support for this cultural event.
