Lionsgate has unveiled a new official trailer for 'Michael', the eagerly awaited biopic that delves into the life of pop legend Michael Jackson. The film, which highlights Jackson's early influences and family roots, will hit theatres and IMAX screens worldwide on April 24.
The trailer gives a deep dive into Michael Jackson's upbringing, emphasizing the pivotal role of his father, Joe Jackson, portrayed by Colman Domingo. A significant moment in the trailer is Joe's stern declaration to his children: 'In this life, you're either a winner or you're a loser,' illustrating his dual role as both a stringent father and the manager who forged the Jackson Five's success.
Adding an emotional layer, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Michael's mother, is shown conveying to her son, 'I knew you were different the moment you were born. You have a special light.' Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew, takes on his first major role, portraying the music icon from his initial performances to his meteoric rise to global stardom.
The trailer charts Michael's transformation from family band member to solo megastar, driven by game-changing albums like 'Thriller.' It also features Jaafar Jackson performing Michael's iconic dance steps, including the moonwalk.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film has faced several delays, originally slated for a fall 2025 release. The cast also includes Miles Teller as attorney John Branca, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, and Juliano Krue Valdi as a young Michael.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate will distribute the biopic within the United States while Universal manages its international release.
