Hollywood is set to breathe new life into the fantasy genre as Arnold Schwarzenegger reunites with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie for a fresh installment of the 'Conan the Barbarian' series, titled 'King Conan.' The project, confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, will see McQuarrie, best known for directing recent 'Mission: Impossible' films, both write and direct the movie for 20th Century Studios.

Schwarzenegger is slated to reprise his iconic role as Conan, the mighty warrior he first brought to life in the 1982 hit and its 1984 sequel. Announced at the Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio, Schwarzenegger hinted at the storyline, which explores Conan's life years into his reign as king and his subsequent fall from grace.

Describing the plot, Schwarzenegger mentioned, "It's a compelling tale where Conan, after ruling for four decades, faces complacency before being ousted from his kingdom," adding that the narrative promises conflict, magic, and epic battles. The actor underscored how modern technology and ample studio resources will enhance the cinematic experience, looking forward to embracing these advancements in the upcoming movie.

This film marks another attempt by Hollywood to revisit the franchise that played a pivotal role in Schwarzenegger's rise to stardom. Previously, efforts by Universal Pictures in the early 2010s with a script by Chris Morgan never materialized.

Currently, 20th Century Studios is securing the necessary rights to proceed with this new adaptation. Beyond 'King Conan,' Schwarzenegger teased continuous franchise revivals, including potential involvement in the 'Predator' series and a sequel to 'Commando.'
