The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, has declared cinema as a boundaryless medium during the opening of the Sikkim International Film Festival. The festival, a first for the state, aims to transform Sikkim into a vibrant hub of art and culture.

In his address at the Manan Kendra opening ceremony, Tamang emphasized the festival's role in fostering youth opportunities and cultural exchange. Hosting this festival during Sikkim's 50th Statehood celebration adds to its significance, Tamang noted. The film festival is an initiative by the state's Information and Public Relations Department, in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation. It was inaugurated by Governor OP Mathur.

The festival, featuring short film competitions, a film market, and workshops, seeks to build a strong creative ecosystem in Sikkim, with support from international partners including the European Union. Tamang also highlighted Sikkim's initiatives like the Creatorpreneur Policy and a proposed Nepali Film Certification Board, all aimed at empowering youth and preserving cultural heritage.
