Noted Malayalam film director Ranjith has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days after being arrested in an attempted sexual assault case. Ranjith was taken into custody in Idukki district after a woman actor alleged he tried to sexually assault her during a film shoot.
The Kochi City Police have recorded the woman's statement at the Women's Police Station and proceeded with the arrest. The incident reportedly occurred during a film shooting, where Ranjith allegedly attempted assault on the woman in a caravan.
The latest accusation against Ranjith isn't his first; he previously faced allegations after a 2009 complaint from a Bengali actress. The Kerala High Court recently closed his anticipatory bail plea, marking a sensitive period for the Malayalam film industry amid ongoing scrutiny.
