Pope Leo XIV held his inaugural Easter vigil at St. Peter's Basilica, advocating for global harmony amid ongoing conflicts. Marking Christ's resurrection, he emphasized overcoming sin and division. Advocating peace, his Holy Week included traditional rites and calls for an end to hostilities worldwide.
Pope Leo XIV, with a lit candle in hand at St. Peter's Basilica, commenced Easter celebrations by calling for global peace. In a vigil marking his first Easter as pontiff, he said the resurrection symbolizes triumph over adversity.
Addressing congregants, he spoke against sin, comparing it to the stone blocking Jesus' tomb. These 'stones,' he noted, represent barriers like fear and mistrust that must be dismantled for peace to flourish worldwide.
With current conflicts, including the US-Israeli war and Russia's actions in Ukraine, Leo has consistently urged for hostilities to cease, underscoring his commitment during Holy Week, which saw him uphold many traditional rites.
