India's External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, underscored cricket's pivotal role in cementing ties between India and Jamaica during his recent visit to Kingston. Speaking at the iconic Sabina Park, where he dedicated a digital scoreboard from New Delhi to Jamaica, Jaishankar reiterated the sport's power to unite nations.
Addressing the gathering, with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness in attendance, Jaishankar noted cricket's avid following among over a billion Indians. He lauded the deep-rooted cricketing legacy of Jamaica, celebrated for icons like George Headley and Chris Gayle. The ceremony symbolized the enduring cricketing partnership and friendship between the two countries, with cricket serving as a bridge of shared experiences.
Jaishankar also highlighted the two countries' common history and aspirations as developing nations, expressing hope that the new scoreboard would witness many historic innings, including those strengthening India-Jamaica relations.
