Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan recently met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to propose a series of reforms for the Tamil film industry. Representing his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, Haasan submitted a memorandum with six key demands to aid the cinema sector's recovery.

Among these were calls for a state-owned OTT platform to support local cinema, the abolition of the 4% local entertainment tax, and the creation of an anti-piracy unit within the police's cybercrime department.

Haasan also advocated for increased showings in theaters and a mandatory eight-week OTT release window to stabilize the industry. He further suggested an incentive scheme to re-establish Tamil Nadu as a premier film production hub.
