From Pistols to Missiles: Uttar Pradesh's Defense Evolution

Speaking at a Lucknow event, he highlighted the shift towards defense self-reliance and the role of the state's Defence Manufacturing Corridor.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing critique against past state administrations on Monday, targeting their focus on producing weapons such as bombs and 'katta'—a type of country-made pistol. Speaking at an event by Amar Ujala in Lucknow, he emphasized that the mindset of former regimes was limited to traditional arms.

Adityanath proudly announced that the state now manufactures advanced weaponry, including the BrahMos missile, a move he hailed as strengthening India's defense self-reliance. The Defense Manufacturing Corridor has positioned Uttar Pradesh prominently on the national defense production map, he said.

The Chief Minister also noted the production of drones for various uses, from agricultural to strategic military applications. His rhetoric underscored a commitment to transforming the state's identity from one marked by illicit arms production to a leader in modern defense technology.
