Hollywood Returns: 'The Families Stone' to Reunite Original Cast
Dermot Mulroney announces a sequel to 'The Family Stone,' titled 'The Families Stone,' confirming the return of most original cast members. The film will proceed despite the emotional weight of Diane Keaton's passing, who played a central role in the original 2005 comedy-drama.
Dermot Mulroney, known for his role as Everett Stone in the beloved 2005 holiday film 'The Family Stone,' has announced a sequel officially titled 'The Families Stone.' Speaking on The Tangle podcast, Mulroney shared that much of the original cast, including Luke Wilson, Rachel McAdams, and Craig T. Nelson, is eager to return.
The original movie, directed by Thomas Bezucha, starred notable actors such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Claire Danes and the late Diane Keaton. Following Keaton's death in October 2025, Bezucha revisited the sequel's storyline, which Mulroney describes as brilliant. He highlighted Keaton's unforgettable impact on the film as the Stone family matriarch.
Sarah Jessica Parker has expressed her anticipation for the sequel, although she acknowledges the project's emotional complexity given Keaton's passing. Bezucha revealed that he had started developing the sequel before Keaton's death, describing the process as healing amid personal grief. Fans eagerly await the film's return to the beloved Stone family dynamic.
