Sports Cut from Brisbane 2032 Olympics May Return in Future Games
The International Olympic Committee, led by Kirsty Coventry, highlights potential for sports dropped from the Brisbane 2032 Olympics to return in the future. Emphasis is placed on reducing hosting costs and managing venues, with decisions on sports and medal events expected by September.
Kirsty Coventry, head of the International Olympic Committee, announced that while certain sports will be omitted from the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, there is potential for their return in future games. Her statement was made during a meeting with Summer Games sports leaders.
Coventry emphasized that the aim is to streamline future Olympic programs for better cost efficiency for host cities. She addressed concerns about the reduction from 36 sports seen in Los Angeles 2028 and potentially fewer than 353 medal events. Solutions will focus on reducing venue numbers and complexity. Official announcements on the Brisbane sports list are expected in September, following a June evaluation process.
