Controversy Surrounds Reemployment of Mizoram Tourism Director

The Mizoram Tourism Service Association has voiced support for the state government's decision to bring back Lalrodingi, a retired official, as director of the tourism department. This comes amidst accusations from the Mizo Zirlai Pawl, a prominent student body, accusing the government of favoritism.

The association regretted the disruption caused by the student organization's protests, which blocked entrance to the Directorate of Tourism and halted official duties. It reiterated that Lalrodingi's appointment would not interfere with promotional opportunities for other officers or affect employment prospects for young graduates within the department.

According to the association, Lalrodingi's position as director is not a direct recruitable post but a promotional one, only available to those who qualify as joint directors with appropriate experience in Tourism and Hospitality. They highlighted that the roles of additional director in the Commerce and Industries department and the tourism director share the same pay scale.

Following earlier changes in her reemployment status due to pressure from the MZP and subsequent governmental decisions, the association clarified that the dual responsibility she carries is temporary, pending availability of eligible replacements. Her expertise remains necessary for ongoing departmental initiatives, and such reemployment of retired officers for public interest is a common practice.
