Vilnius hosted a vibrant celebration of Lithuania's iconic cold beet soup, attracting tens of thousands to its capital. The festival, infused with pink hues, captivated an international audience over a colorful three-day event.
The festival, known as Vilnius Pink Soup Fest, featured a synchronised 'Pink Break' lunch with guests from various corners of the world savoring the traditional dish, šaltibaršciai, at communal tables. A significant quantity of key ingredients, such as more than three metric tonnes of fermented milk drink kefir, ensured the event catered to over 100,000 attendees.
Lithuanians typically relish this refreshing soup during the Baltic summer, made with beets, kefir, boiled potatoes, eggs, cucumbers, and dill. Many attendees wore pink, with some donning playful costumes to join a parade that spanned both Vilnius streets and the Neris River.
Tourist Connor Holmes from the UK shared his enthusiasm, stating he was inspired to create a pink-themed knight attire for the event. Local resident Jolanta Žukiene noted the festival's growing international appeal, as her family enjoyed participating for the fourth time. The festival is part of a broader initiative to boost tourism in Lithuania.
Go Vilnius director Dovile Aleksandraviciene humorously remarked on the festival's dominance across different cityscapes, hinting at potential future expansions.
