Security Concerns Halt Kanye West and Travis Scott's Italian Concerts
Kanye West and Travis Scott's scheduled concerts in Italy were canceled due to security concerns, following calls from several community groups. The cancellations came despite West's recent large-scale performance in Istanbul and plans for further European tour dates.
The much-anticipated concerts of American rappers Kanye West and Travis Scott in Italy have been called off, as reported by Variety. The authorities in the northern city of Reggio Emilia scrapped the scheduled shows for July, raising concerns over security risks.
West, now known as Ye, was primed to headline the Hellwat Festival at the RCF Arena with its colossal capacity of 103,000, marking one of his largest planned performances. Travis Scott was set to kick off his concert a day earlier, on July 17, at the same venue. Both cancellations arose from security issues rather than Scott's ban from performing in Italy, a detail confirmed by Variety.
The decision by Reggio Emilia prefect Salvatore Angieri came after appeals from various groups, including local Jewish and anti-fascist communities, who earlier demanded the cancellation of West's performance due to his past anti-Semitic remarks. In response, the Hellwat Festival organizers relayed through social media their intention to reschedule West's performance to a nearby yet different jurisdiction.
These developments unfolded as West recently launched his summer tour with a massive show in Istanbul's Ataturk Olympic Stadium, drawing an audience of 118,000 alongside Scott. The artists had previously teamed up on 'Father,' a track from West's new album 'Bully'.
Despite certain international bans, West is scheduled for performances in the Netherlands, Albania, and the Czech Republic later this summer.
