Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been added to a lung transplant waiting list after experiencing further health setbacks, according to a Friday statement from the royal household.

The 52-year-old, married to Crown Prince Haakon, was diagnosed in 2018 with pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic disease causing lung scarring and reduced oxygen intake. The royal palace revealed her placement on the transplant list after extensive health evaluations.

Oslo University Hospital had indicated a transplant would be necessary but had not yet listed her as a potential recipient. Crown Prince Haakon noted her breathing struggles have worsened, while Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere commended her openness about her health journey.
